Holiday Garbage and Recycling Schedule

The holiday schedule is as follows:

  • New Year’s – If either December 31 or January 1 falls on a Sunday or a Monday, then service will be delayed until Tuesday
  • Martin Luther King Jr. Day – Service will be delayed until Tuesday
  • President’s Day – Service will be delayed until Tuesday
  • Memorial Day – Service will be delayed until Tuesday
  • Independence Day – If this falls on a Monday, service will be delayed until Tuesday
  • Labor Day – Service will be delayed until Tuesday
  • Veteran’s Day – If this falls on a Monday, service will be delayed until Tuesday
  • Christmas – If either December 24th or 25th falls on a Sunday or a Monday, then service will be delayed until Tuesday

Garbage

The City of Eldon offers convenient garbage and recycling collection services. To ensure pickup, please place appropriately sized garbage containers at the curb or in the alley by 7 a.m. Items not properly contained or placed in an approved container will not be collected and must be promptly cleaned up and stored correctly by the property owner or occupant. Additionally, any extra containers without the required tag will not be collected.

Garbage Guidelines and Fees

2024

There shall be a $20.00 collection fee for each item not permissible in the approved cans.

For each apartment with alley or curb pickup, the collection charge for two thirty-five-gallon cans shall be $15.00 per month for once-a-week service.

For each residence in the city limits with alley or curb pickup, the collection charge for two 35-gallon cans shall be $18.00 per month for once-a-week service. For each additional can collected from each residence or apartment already receiving collection service, the charge shall be $9.00 dollars for each additional can. Each additional bag or can (anything over the two (2) eligible bags or cans) must have the “Eldon Tag” attached to it. The Eldon Tag may be purchased at City Hall at a cost of $1.00 per tag. Place the label on the handle of the bag or can.  Do Not use the labels as bag ties.

For each residence outside the city limits with alley or curb pickup, the collection charge for two 35-gallon cans shall be $24.00 per month for once-a-week service.

For each business in the city limits with alley or curb pickup, the collection charge for two 35-gallon cans shall be $20.00 per month for once-a-week service. For each commercial establishment without commercial-size containers with truck lift devices, the collection charge shall be $9.00 dollars for each additional can. Rates for commercial establishments using commercial-size containers with truck lift devices shall be approved by the city council by resolution based upon weight and volume of the waste collected

For each residence outside the city limits with alley or curb pickup, the collection charge for two 35-gallon cans shall be $28.00 per month for once-a-week service.

For each business in the city limits with alley or curb pickup, the collection charge for two 35-gallon cans shall be $24.00 per month for once-a-week service. For each commercial establishment without commercial-size containers with truck lift devices, the collection charge shall be $10.00 dollars for each additional can. Recycling

The city has provided each habitable structure in the city with a recycling bin. In the event that a recycling bin needs to be replaced, it may be purchased for $12 from the city. Only city recycling bins will be collected. Recycling will not be picked up if it is not in a city recycling bin. City recycling bins must remain with the property. If the bins are removed from the property when the inhabitant vacates the property, the cost of the recycling bin will come out of the deposit.

Recycling collection service will be the same day as garbage collection. Place all your clean acceptable recyclables together in the recycling bin. Rinse plastic bottles and jugs, as well as aluminum and metal cans. Place the following items in the bin together:

Acceptable Items

  • Any plastic container that has a neck
  • Newspapers (also including inserts)
  • Mixed paper – Junk mail, envelopes, sticky notes, coloring books, phone books, cereal boxes, tissue boxes, magazines, etc.
  • Cardboard – must be broken down
  • Tin and aluminum cans
  • Shredded paper – needs to be contained in a paper product such as a cereal or cardboard box, or a paper sack
  • Glass jars and bottles of all colors
  • Wire hangers
  • Empty aerosol cans

  • Plastic margarine, yogurt or cottage cheese containers (or similar plastic containers)
  • Food contaminated items
  • Plastic bags
  • Styrofoam
  • Plastic cups
  • Plastic food containers
  • Foil and disposable baking tins
  • Garbage or yard debris
  • Containers with motor oils or other hazardous materials
